Your state/provincial board issues an approval to test after you apply for a license. After your board sends your approval to ASWB, you can register and pay for the examination. Look up your board’s contact information.

You cannot register to take the exam until ASWB receives approval from your board. Contact your board to check the status of your application or request that they submit your approval to ASWB so you can register. Look up your board’s contact information.

Contact the board and request that they send a name correction to ASWB. Look up your board’s contact information.

After ASWB receives the name correction, you will be able to register. It can take 24–48 additional business hours for the approval to reach our online system.

You must request and receive approval for nonstandard testing arrangements before you register with ASWB to take the exam. Learn about and request nonstandard testing arrangements.

Check your notifications on the main menu of ASWBCentral. If you need further assistance contact Candidate Services.

The first and last names on both IDs must match the names on the Authorization to Test from ASWB. The test center does not verify middle names.

Wait to receive your Authorization to Test email. Then log in to ASWBCentral and click on the Exam Registration box. Select your current registration. Navigate to the Scheduling Option by clicking on the ACTION drop down menu. You will also be brought to this menu immediately after your payment is received.

Confirm your test date and time through the Exam Registration box on the Social Worker Dashboard of ASWBCentral. Click Exam Scheduled next to your registration. Then click the ACTION drop down menu to view your exam details.

If circumstances prevent you from testing before your Authorization to Test expires, you may request an extension of your authorization period. Extensions may be granted for up to six months, depending on your board approval. Learn more about requesting an extension of your Authorization To Test.

If you missed your examination appointment or did not cancel your appointment within the guidelines, ASWB may excuse the absence. Learn more about excused absences.

ASWB policy requires candidates to wait 90 days between exam attempts. You may request a waiver that allows you to retake the exam before the end of the 90-day period if the state or provincial board where you are applying for a license allows waivers and your most recent exam score was within 10 correct answers of the passing score.

Log onto ASWBCentral and navigate to User Account. From there click on Select Notifications and you can find your receipts and other account notifications.

Difficulties must be reported at the time of the occurrence to Pearson VUE staff at the test center and to ASWB within two business days of the incident. Report an incident.

If you have already passed a social work licensing exam, you can send your scores to another state or province to get a license. Request a score transfer.
