Meeting location selection

ASWB has a long tradition of holding our meetings in a variety of cities. This ensures that members from different regions have an opportunity to meet closer to home and provides other attendees the opportunity to visit their fellow member jurisdictions.

The Regulatory Education and Leadership (REAL) Committee is finalizing plans for the 2024 ASWB Education Meeting, which will be held May 3-4 in Arlington, Virginia. This conference is one of two major ASWB meetings in 2024; the second is the Annual Meeting of the Delegate Assembly, taking place November 8-9 in San Diego, California.

ASWB has a long tradition of holding our meetings in a variety of cities. This ensures that members from different regions have an opportunity to meet closer to home and provides other attendees the opportunity to visit their fellow member jurisdictions. Decisions about host locations are based on multiple criteria, from hotel room rates and food pricing to the number of direct flights into the local airport.

Proposals for meeting space and lodging can vary, depending on what other meetings are in the city. Sometimes an upscale venue becomes more affordable because of the season. At other times, a reasonably priced venue becomes more expensive due to demand in that market. Community support, DEI practices, and green initiatives also factor into the hotel selection.

Invite us!

The Volunteer Engagement and Outreach department is accepting invitations from member jurisdictions for our two major meetings in 2026 and beyond. The hosting jurisdiction’s board or college can help arrange a special welcome by a local dignitary, provide welcome bags for attendees, or suggest entertainment unique to the location… the list goes on! If your board or college would like to invite ASWB to plan a future meeting in your jurisdiction, please send an invitation to veo@aswb.org that includes the following:

  • Your jurisdiction
  • Recommended city or cities
  • Preferred meeting: ASWB Education Meeting (usually late April or early May) or the Annual Meeting of the Delegate Assembly (usually November)
  • Pertinent information that would be helpful to know about the location (e.g., airport information, cultural areas of interest)
  • Ways your board or college will support the meeting

Keep in mind that locations are determined approximately two years in advance to get the best hotel rates and to give members advanced notice of locations and dates. Invitations received in 2024 will be considered for 2026 and beyond. While there are a lot of criteria to consider, if your invitation is received by the end of April 2024, we would be excited to include your jurisdiction in the selection process for 2026!

ASWB’s major membership meetings

ASWB hosts two membership meetings each year serving different purposes. The education meeting, customarily held in April or May, focuses on regulatory education. The theme changes each year depending on a topic approved by the Board of Directors, and this meeting may be held online instead of in person.

The Annual Meeting of the Delegate Assembly is usually held in November and is the business meeting of the association. ASWB fully funds one delegate from each member jurisdiction to represent their board or college in the voting process. Delegates at the annual meeting elect members of the Nominating Committee and the Board of Directors, vote on amendments to the association’s bylaws, and debate and vote on resolutions.

The meeting calendar is set by the ASWB Board of Directors taking into consideration many moving parts including religious holidays, the exam development schedule, and other large social work conferences.  ASWB makes every effort to avoid holidays, but this is sometimes unavoidable.
