ASWB services to boards include:
Look Up a License
This feature connects the public with a social worker’s state board to find out who is licensed and whether the license is in good standing.
ASWB Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program
The ASWB ACE program assures boards that social workers have access to the highest quality continuing education that is relevant for license renewal.
ASWB Model Social Work Practice Act
The Model Social Work Practice Act, or model law, is the result of intensive work and consideration by ASWB, its Board of Directors, and a team of social work appointees. It establishes standards of minimum social work competence, methods of fairly addressing consumer concerns, and a means of removing practitioners who do not adhere to the rules of professional practice. The model law is an important resource for boards as they consider changes to their social work laws and regulations.
Public Protection Database (PPD)
The PPD is an important front line in the protection of the public. ASWB member boards can report disciplinary actions to the PPD and immediately check the history and status of a licensed social worker applying for licensure to their jurisdiction. The system is designed to prevent a social worker who has been disciplined in one location from withholding such adverse action from the new licensing jurisdiction. The information is also reported to the National Practitioner Data Bank.
