Your test results will be forwarded to the board in the jurisdiction in which you wish to be licensed. Generally, if you had to obtain that board’s permission to take the examination, the board will contact you regarding your licensure status after you take the test.
Candidates in the following states must contact the state regulatory board for license status:
California candidates must submit the LCSW request for Initial License Issuance form and payment to the Board of Behavioral Sciences.
Kentucky candidates must submit a copy of the Unofficial Score Report along with licensure fees directly to the Kentucky Board of Social Work after passing the exam.
New Jersey candidates must contact the New Jersey State Board of Social Work Examiners for license application.
West Virginia candidates will be contacted by the West Virginia Board of Social Work within 30 days of passing the exam.
If you do not pass the exam
Candidates who fail the ASWB examination will be supplied with diagnostic information outlining their performance on the test. Please note that some jurisdictions limit the number of times a candidate may retake an ASWB examination. Learn more about the next steps for retaking the exam.
