COVID-19 FAQ

Exam procedures

Registering with ASWB to take the exam

How do I register with ASWB to take an exam?
Online registration is available.

Will I get an automatic refund from ASWB?
Examination fees are nonrefundable. ASWB will waive registration change fees ($30) to apply extensions to candidate registration expiration dates affected by developments related to COVID-19.

How do I find out when my Authorization to Test expires? What is my deadline to take the exam? Will I get an extension?
The Authorization to Test email includes a Registration Expiration Date. That date identifies when the Authorization to Test expires and is your deadline for taking the exam.

  • If your Registration Expiration Date has not passed, your Authorization to Test from ASWB is still valid. Please schedule your appointment online with Pearson VUE. If you choose to call Pearson VUE, please be aware that you may experience delays because of high call volume.
  • If your Registration Expiration Date passed during the testing shutdown, ASWB will be working with our member boards to extend your Authorization to Test. Please be aware that this coordination may take some time. Please note: if your Registration Expiration Date is directly tied to the approval to test expiration date you received from your state/province, ASWB will need a new approval/authorization from your state/province to extend your Authorization to Test. In this case, you must contact your state/province for a new approval. We will also be working with our member boards to assist in this process.

What if I have an appointment with special testing arrangements (ADA or ESL)?
The information in the questions above also applies to those candidates who have appointments with special testing arrangements (ADA or ESL). Refer to your Authorization to Test from ASWB for appointment scheduling instructions.

What if my ID has expired?

Until further notice, ASWB has authorized Pearson VUE to allow candidates to test with expired IDs, as many agencies are not open for renewals.

Scheduling my exam with Pearson VUE

If you have scheduled your appointment and have not received a cancellation notice from Pearson VUE, you should plan to test as scheduled. ASWB recommends that you confirm your appointment with Pearson VUE in advance to be sure of test center availability.

The Pearson VUE site isn’t loading. What do I do?
We understand how frustrating this is. Please be patient and try again later. High traffic can slow page response time not only on Pearson VUE’s page but on any web page.

How do I reschedule my exam with Pearson VUE?
Scheduling online is recommended. Candidates with special testing arrangements should refer to the Authorization to Test from ASWB for appointment scheduling instructions. If your Authorization to Test requires that you contact Pearson VUE by phone, please be aware that you may experience delays because of high call volume.

When can I reschedule my exam with Pearson VUE?
Rescheduling is available now. Please be aware that appointment times are at a premium right now. We recommend that you take the first-available appointment to be sure you can test.

Can you recommend some good self-care practices?
Please check out NASW resources for self-care during the coronavirus pandemic.
