Passing Score Standards, Associate Licensing Exam

ASWB is seeking licensed social workers to participate in an important event that will help to set the passing score standards for newly-constructed ASWB Associate examinations.

Participants selected to attend this event will be a part of the subject matter expert group that will recommend the passing standards for the new associate social work licensing examination to be released in 2011. This meeting will bring together social workers from jurisdictions in the U.S. and Canada to focus on the demonstration of associate-level social work competency through the examination process.

Appointed members will be required to attend a 2-day meeting in northern Virginia, October 1-3, 2010.  All travel, meal, and lodging expenses will be paid by ASWB.

Applicants appointed to this project will be helping to review the examination now being developed as a result of the most recent social work practice analysis conducted by ASWB.  Attendees will review the examination and participate in discussions about the expected competency level of associate and/or diploma social workers in the United States and Canada. Finally, recommendations to the ASWB Board of Directors will be developed regarding the establishment of passing standards for the Associate social work licensing examination.

Appointment to this important group will be based on areas of practice, with overall composition balanced for gender, race, ethnic, practice, educational, and geographic diversity.  Individuals with prior experience on a non exam-related ASWB committee, as well as individuals  who are currently licensed at an associate level, are strongly encouraged to apply for consideration.

Applicants must hold a currently-valid social work license, and be practicing social work as a social worker or associate social worker, which includes social work education.

To be considered for this project, applicants must complete a brief demographic questionnaire and submit a resume or vitae to lharless@aswb.org. The questionnaire can be found here. DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION:  FRIDAY, AUGUST 13, 2010.  All successful applicants will be required to sign confidentiality agreements regarding the ASWB examinations and examination program.

Appointments to this project will be announced the week of August 16, 2010.
