ASWB selects Pearson VUE to administer social work licensing exams

ASWB selects Pearson VUE to administer social work licensing exams
Beginning January 1, 2011, the Association of Social Work Boards will be using Pearson VUE, of Bloomington, Minnesota, for administration and support of the ASWB social work licensing examinations.  The change to Pearson VUE will include the use of new test center locations and will allow for several enhancements to the testing experience, including how and when appointments are made, how cancellations are handled, and the documentation required at the testing centers.

The ASWB examinations will be administered at a network of over 200 Pearson test sites located throughout the U.S. and Canada. Although the actual location of sites will change from the 2010 testing centers, the geographic distribution of sites is comparable to sites currently available.

FAQS

Will the registration process change in 2011?
No. Candidates taking any ASWB social work licensing examination will continue to register by phone at 1-888-579-3926, mail, and fax or online at www.aswb.org. Exception:  candidates who are planning on taking the ASWB Advanced Generalist examination between January 1 and June 30, 2011. Find out more about this exception here.

Will the examination fees change?  Will there be additional fees?
No. Examination registration fees will remain $230 for the Bachelors and Masters examinations, and $260 for the Advanced Generalist and Clinical examinations. Remember that some candidates may qualify for a free Advanced Generalist examination during the first half of 2011. More information about the Advanced Generalist pilot program can be found here.

Will the test format change?
No. The ASWB examinations will still be four-option, multiple choice tests in which 150 questions are scored.

Will the computerized delivery system change?
Not much. There will be some minor changes to the way the test looks on the screen, but the tests will have the same features as those administered before 2011.  Test-takers will, for example, have the same ability to mark questions for review, skip questions and return later, and review questions.

What will change for testing candidates?
The location of the test sites will be different than those used before January 2011.  A complete list of those sites can be found here.  Once the examination fee is paid and the registration is completed with ASWB, candidates will be able to make online appointments for testing in approximately 24 hours.  Appointments made by phone can also be scheduled approximately 24 hours after fees are paid and registration is completed.

The documentation required for admission to test will change. Candidates must bring two forms of identification, one of which must be a currently-valid, government issued photo i.d.

Detailed information on the test appointment, check-in, identifications required, and other administration processes can be found in the 2011 ASWB Candidate Handbook.
